Churchill Band Parents Association
General Meeting
August 26, 2008 in the Churchill Band Hall
President
Roger Riley called the meeting to order at 7:10PM. The minutes from the May meeting
were made available for review. There
were no additions or corrections to the minutes. Debbie Riley gave her e-mail
address (debbie@thenordantrust.com
) and asked that anyone who had not been receiving band e-mails from her to
please send her an e-mail so that they can be added to her list. So far 227
people have signed up for the Hawaii trip. If anyone else is interested, it is
not too late to turn the forms in. The student assessment fee this year
included the pre-game meals so that everyone would be assured of getting a meal
before the games. Students are not supposed to leave the campus to eat. A
volunteer is needed to organize a parent bus for the BOA Houston trip. Debbie
thanked all committee and board members for helping get the new year off to a
great start.
Treasurer
Lauri Porter explained the budget report from last year and the current budget.
Please be patient with checks that have been written to the Band Parents at
this time of year. It takes a while to collect them all and get the information
to each of the committees. If you have any questions, see Lauri after the
meeting. Three people are needed to serve on the Audit committee.
Mike
Pardoe and Julie Walker gave the Concession report. The new concession stands
at BAC are ready for use. All workers must wear a cap or a hair net while
working. Each family is encouraged to work at least 3 events through-out the
school year. Profits from concession sales go back to the band programs.
The
Elizondo’s and the Chappell’s gave the Corporate fundraising report. Norma Elizondo
thanked everyone who helped make Meet the Band a success. Approximately 600
plates were sold. Next up is the annual Spaghetti dinner and Silent auction.
This is the largest fundraiser for the Band Parents. Parents were encouraged to
help solicit donations for the Silent auction. See Norma or Johnny after the
meeting if you would like to help. Brent Chappell explained the advertising on
the band trailer.
Traci
and Kevin Novikoff and Jeanie and Joe Grogan gave the Student fundraising
report. Traci thanked all of the individual chairmen for each fundraiser for
their help. We will have a few more fall fundraisers. Joe Grogan explained the
point tracking system.
Doug
and Kathe Willming gave the Chaperone report. They are working on getting
chaperones for all of the football games and fall contests. Kathe thanked Doug
and Paula Miller for allowing the students to have the annual band party at
their house. She also thanked everyone who chaperoned the event.
Paul
Condon gave the Equipment report. There are plenty of opportunities for people
to work with the Crew. Right now they are working on props for the UIL show.
Debbie Condon asked that guard parents keep current with their payments.
Mr. Paul
DeGrove, the administration liaison, gave his report. He welcomed all the new parents to Churchill.
The next construction phase has started which will cause some parking issues.
PTA Greenback night is September 16, 2008.
Mr.
Lo welcomed all freshmen parents. We have approximately 85-90 new students this
year. There have been some questions regarding why we have a JV band. He
explained that for some it is hard to make the transition from middle school to
high school. Add to that the stress of being in the Varsity band, and you would
have some over taxed students. Mr. Lo realizes that academics come first. He
went over the fall calendar. He and the rest of the staff are excited about the
program this year. He showed a new band manual that will be given to the
students to read and sign for.
Mr.
Johnson said that he is enjoying his time so far at Churchill. Please e-mail
him or call with any questions.
Mr.
Ruiz asked that parents see that all students have the proper attire for
practice and also that they have plenty to drink throughout the day and while
at practice.
Committee
reports were as follows:
Travis Hestilow said that he is
working on installing the commerative bricks that were ordered in the spring.
If anyone is interested in doing this next year, please see him after the
meeting. He will also be putting together the band video for the year. If
anyone has video or still pictures that they would like included, please give
to Travis.
Dee Dee Luther said that the garage
sale would be held on Sept. 6. Everything that each participant makes goes into
the students’ point account.
Sharon Kaufman and Caroline Crosson
will be working on the senior mums this year and would like a few volunteers to
help assemble them.
Vicki Ranieri and Carol Franki are
working on the silent auction and would like help to solicit donations.
Lisa Jarrell gave some information
on the spring band banquet. It will be held on May 23. Please let her know if
you are interested in helping.
Melanie Kost gave instructions on
care for the marching uniform.
There being no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Barbara Pauley
